Daily Times Nigeria, one of the country’s oldest media institutions, is marking its 100th anniversary in 2026 with a comprehensive celebration featuring events designed to honor influential Nigerians and stimulate national dialogue on future development. Scheduled for November 3, 2026, in Lagos, the centenary activities include the Shaping the Future Town Hall, the Honouring the Past Exhibition, and the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards.

Themed “Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future,” the events aim to bring together policymakers, business leaders, public officials, and prominent Nigerians who have contributed to the nation’s progress. Daily Times has documented Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural changes since its founding and will leverage this legacy to recognize achievements that have shaped the country.

Recognizing national achievers through Times Heroes Awards

The Times Heroes Awards will commend individuals and institutions whose leadership, innovation, and service have positively influenced Nigeria’s growth. This includes leaders in business, public service, and other sectors who have impacted national development. Award recipients will be featured in a special publication, the Nigerian Grand Book, or National Book of Changemakers, which draws on 15 years of research combined with the Daily Times archive. Notably, the book includes a foreword by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Fostering dialogue on Nigeria’s future

Beyond celebration, the centenary initiative aims to encourage meaningful conversation about Nigeria’s development priorities. The Shaping the Future Town Hall will host policymakers and stakeholders to discuss critical topics such as informal employment, energy access, infrastructure, livelihoods, and investment climate. The goal is to identify practical steps to unlock the country’s economic potential and foster sustainable growth.

Preserving history through exhibition and publication

The Honouring the Past Exhibition will showcase highlights from the Daily Times’ extensive archive, offering attendees a chance to reflect on significant events and personalities that have influenced Nigeria’s history. This initiative supports national memory and encourages public appreciation of past achievements.

Engagement and legacy

Earlier in the year, a similar gathering in Abuja drew national figures including government officials, traditional leaders, and business icons, underscoring the wide support for the centenary events. Besides celebrating distinguished individuals, the programs aim to inspire younger generations and provide opportunities for corporate involvement, including sponsorships to support educational access to the exhibition.

As Daily Times enters its second century, the centenary events stand as a tribute to the publication’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s narrative and as a platform for collaborative efforts toward a prosperous future.
